What if the search finds a filing?
The certificate reports results honestly either way. If a filing turns up and you need the underlying documents, discharge or dismissal papers can be ordered separately ($20 for the order itself, $35 with full schedules, $45 for the complete file).
How is this different from a credit report?
A credit report shows borrowing history; it isn’t a certified court search. This certificate documents an actual search of the federal bankruptcy courts and gives a direct, dated answer about filings.
